Wesley (Junior) Gilliard, was born in Eutawville, South Carolina to the late Ella (Zadie) Richburg-Gilliard and the late Henry Gilliard on Augutst 10, 1928. He spent his childhood attending a one-room school house in Cross and working on the family farm with his 8 siblings.
Wesley moved to Charleston as a teenager, then worked as a driver at Baker's Meat House. He married the late Annie Nesmith and to this union, they were blessed with Barbara Ann, Wesley Stanley, both of North Charleston, Cathy Mae (Rodney) of New Jersey, Yrel (Diane) of Eutawville, and Michael (Yvonne) of Virginia.
Wesley then remarried to Wilhelmena Johnson and to this blessed union were born, Mary Louise (Travis) of New York, Russell, Darryl (deceased) of Charleston, Amanda Lee of Virginia, Geraldine Pharr (Alan) of North Charleston, and also a step son, Robert Olds (Desiree) of North Charleston.
Wesley worked for Southeastern Galleries for over 60 years until his retirement in 2016, as an interior decorator. He hung draperies in Charleston's Custom House and The Citadel. Wesley was a loyal member of Ebenezer-Zion A.M.E. Church.
Wesley joined his siblings, Wilson, Bertha Lee, James and Harry, whom all preceded him in death, on October 25, 2017 at 11:05 in heaven.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a brother, Willie of Eutawville; sisters, Kathleen Brown of Holly Hill, Mae Watson of Holly Hill, and Agnes Doctor of New Jersey. He also leaves to treasure his memory, 45 grandchildren, and a host of great and great-great grandchildren, cousins, church family, and friends.
