David A. Jamison

The Life and Legacy of Deacon David Abraham Jamison

David Abraham was born November 30, 1937 to Deaconess Alice Bailey Jamison and Deacon Robert H. Jamison in Vance, South Carolina, Orangeburg County where he grew up and attended public school along with his brothers and sisters.

He accepted the Lord as his Savior and was baptized at the age of twelve (12) at Liberty Hill Baptist Church under the Pastorate of Rev. W.W. Vine.

He moved to Washington, D.C. in 1958 where he started his working career in the District of Columbia public School System as a Steam Engineer.

David and Jessie Lee were united in Holy Matrimony on September 2, 1960 from this union three children were born: David Jr., Deborah Evon, and Daniel. Baby Daniel said hello and good-bye on February 23, 1968 and the Lord received him into heaven.

David always wanted the best for his family. He worked two jobs to make sure his family was well taken care off. They never wanted for anything.

David liked nice cars, trucks and race cars. He kept all of them clean, waxed, and shined.

One of his hobbies was going to the racetrack with his favorite race cars, a 1964 Sport Fury and a 1968 Dodge Dart. His race cars were known as the “Baby Sitter.”

David enjoyed nice clothes, everything matching from head to toe and he love to eat good food. Whenever you offer him some food he will say “I am too well raised to say no.”

While living in Washington, D.C. David and his family were faithful members of New Samaritan Baptist Church where Reverend Robert Harrison was the Pastor.

David was devoted to the Lord, his Pastor and the Church. He served faithfully with the Bus Ministry. He even used his own van to transport Seniors of the Church to different places.

Reverend Robert Harrison had great respect for Brother Jamison and wanted him to serve with the Deacon’s Ministry but David thought he was not ready at that time, he did not know that the Lord was preparing him for ministry. Reverend Harrison was also from South Carolina.

David always planned to return back to South Carolina. The Lord blessed him to be able to retire from his job after working for 30 years. He received many awards and acknowledgements for outstanding service to the Washington, D.C. School System from 1959 to 1989.

After his retirement celebration in Washington, D.C. David and his family moved back to South Carolina in 1989. He was so excited to be back home.

He renewed his membership with his home church, Liberty Hill Baptist Church along with his family. With a sincere heart he began to work for the Lord. He served with the Trustee Ministry and sang with the Male Chorus from 1990 to 1996 until he was appointed to the Deacon’s Ministry. He became Chairman of the Deacon’s Ministry and Church Treasurer in 1998.

He worked for Orangeburg District # 3 School System from 1990 until 2000 after he retired, he devoted his time and energy to his family and his Church.

Visiting the sick and serving the Lord’s Supper to those who were unable to come to Church. Although some time he did not feel well himself he continue to press his way to serve others.

He loved his wife, Jessie Lee and everywhere he goes most of the time they went together. His favorite saying is, “We come as one.”

He loved his children and grandchildren and always wanted the best for them.

David loved the Lord and he talked about the Lord everywhere he went, in the doctor’s office, in the barber shop, in the drug store, to friends and family members.

He liked to sing praises unto the Lord, some of his favorite songs are: Nobody But You Lord, We Are Climbing Jacob’s Ladder, and I Have Decided To Follow Jesus.

David believed in tithing as stated in Malachi chapter 3 verse 10. “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, said the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”

He was inspired by Psalm 23 “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want;” Matthew Chapter 5 verse 16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven;” and Psalm 27:14 “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.”

David leaves to cherish and continue his Legacy: his devoted and beloved wife of 58 years and five months, Jessie Lee Jamison; son, David Jamison, Jr.; daughter whom he called “My Deborah” Deborah Evon Blanchard (Marvin “Dennis”); three grandchildren that he loved and helped to raise, Keonia Michelle Reed, William Kalik Young, Jr. and Marquize Drenell Young; two brothers, Richard H. Jamison (Mary) of Holly Hill, S.C. and William H. Jamison (Barbara) of Lakeland, Florida; two sisters, Rosa J. King of Temple Hills, Maryland and Hycia Jamison Johnson (Rev. Dr. C.H. Johnson) of Camp Springs, Maryland; sister-in-law, Annie Lee Green; brother-in-law, James L. Johnson; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

David and his first cousin Deacon Bill Bailey were just like brothers, they talk on the phone all the time and Bill came to visit David on a regular basis with all kinds of gifts from Washington, D.C and Maryland.

David loved his Pastor and his Church Family. AMEN!
