Born on February 22, 1944 in Santee, SC to his biological parents, George and Ida Bell Graten White. Arthur was blessed, nurtured, and loved unconditionally by his God-sent, surrogate family: Willie and Ruth Martin and 10 siblings in Holly Hill, SC.
A hard-working, courageous young man, “Banks” graduated from Roberts High School in 1964 where he excelled in academics and sports. He, along with his brother James, chose a higher learning opportunity at Voorhees College in Denmark, SC. He made a home in NY and married his hometown sweetheart, Lillian Dingle, in 1970. Their union was blessed by a daughter, Keshia, in May 1971.
Arthur moved to Atlanta, GA in 1979 where he reconnected with his college love and friend, Gracie Hunter. They were wed in 1980 and welcomed another daughter, Kimberly Jeynelle, in August 1981. He affectionately called both girls “Daddy’s Buddy” and he was proud and gratified by their love and achievement. Keshia and Kimberly became the center of his joy.
For a time, Arthur lived and worked in St. Petersburg, FL before returning to Holly Hill to embark on his retirement journey. He developed many interests over the years. “Banks” enjoyed riding his 10-speed bike, gardening, and cooking. He loved to read, play cards, watch sports, and mentor young men.
