A Time to be born
John Harold Gillens, son of the late George Gillens, II and Evelyn Broughton Gillens was
born on September 9, 1947.
A Time for Every Purpose under Heaven
At an early age, he accepted Christ and joined Unity Baptist Church where he was a lifelong
member. John graduated from Holly Hill Roberts High School in 1966. He completed acomprehensive program for auto body repair. He worked as an auto body repairman for a short time.He later became a master brick mason.
He was united in holy matrimony to Shirley Smalls.This union was blessed with two daughters.
John resided with his parents and cared for them both. He was an excellent cook who loved a
good meal, good music, life, laughter and family.
A Time to Die
On Friday Feb. 19, 2021, John entered into eternal rest.
A Time to Mourn
John leaves to cherish his memories two daughters: Angela (Jerry) Walker and Samantha Gillens.
His mother Evelyn B. Gillens ; grandchildren: Antonio Gillens, Noah X. Jimerson, Tiana
Jimerson, Reena Walker, Nathaneal Walker Chante` Avinger, Adaiah Walker and Jeremiah Walker.
His siblings: Mary Lee(Peter)Simmons, Jacob(Carolyn)Gillens, George, III(Gerald)Gillens,
Nathaniel Gillens, Stanley(Emily)Gillens, Earnest(Gertrude)Gillens, Georgia Gillens,Jonathan(Michelle)Gillens, Stormey(Jenaris)Gillens), Regina Gillens and Loretta(Ron Williams)Gillens. Two aunts: Elouise Gillens and Emma Broughton and one uncle: Wendell Larrymoore. A host of Nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
