Joseph Morant, Sr Obituary

Mr. Joseph Morant, Sr., 69, was born in Holly Hill, South Carolina, on February 8, 1952, to the late Mack and Jannie Morant of Holly Hill, South Carolina. He departed this life on Sunday, April 4, 2021.

Joseph connected with God at an early age and was a faithful member of Greater Target A.M.E. Church where he served as a member of the Steward Board, Lay Organization and President of the Sons of Allen.

As a child, Joseph attended the public schools of Holly Hill, SC. He later went on to join the United States Army and served overseas in Germany.  He attended Denmark Technical College acquiring skills and certifications in Brick Masonry.  Upon relocation to Manhattan, New York, he attended New York City Community College earning his certification in Building Inspections.  He was quite the artist when it came to masonry and brick laying, and always provided an exemplary level of service.  Joseph had a love for God and learning, so he furthered his education at the School of the Great Commission, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Theological Studies.

Joseph was employed by the City of New York, where he worked as a Building Inspector.  He displayed an absolute love for the occupational industry that he chose to devote many years of his career life towards. He was a determined and admirable Masonry Instructor at MacDougall Correctional Facility where he taught in the Palmetto Unified School District program for 26 years.  Because of his jovial and upbeat personality, his masonry classes were always filled to capacity. Joseph later retired from the State of South Carolina as a Masonry Instructor.  He was extremely outgoing and enjoyed networking with different organizations as well as citizens within his community. He was also a member of American Legion Post #116 of Holly Hill, where he loved to serve and give back to others.  A few of his favorite hobbies were gardening, and keeping his yard and flowers well-manicured. He made good use of his green thumb by giving generously from his garden. He also enjoyed reading the Bible.  He stayed connected to his family and close friends via the telephone.  He was also a lover of animals and had several pets that he cared for.

Preceding him in death are his sisters, Virgie Lee James and Jeanette Morant.  Left to cherish his memories is his former wife, Adrienne C. Morant, children from the union; Joseph (Mandi)  Morant Jr. of Orlando, Florida, Shari Morant (Jamalle) of Summerville, and  Brandon Morant of Isle of Palms; son, Kenyatta White of Harleyville; long time, devoted friend, Rochelle Washington of Vance;  his brothers, Percy (Maxine) Morant of Columbia, SC, Dr. Mack Morant of St. George, SC;  sisters, Dr. Gloria (Irby) James of Holly Hill, SC and Sharron (Daniel) Garland of Summerville, SC; brother-in-law, Curtis James; his grandsons, Preston and Bryce, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
